What is the cheapest and best online college for web design and development?

What basic web design/scripting knowledge would you want/expect an internet marketer to have?

• I'm putting together an 8-week college course on the fundamentals of web design and scripting languages for internet marketers. What are the most important topics/tools /terminology they should know? I don't expect them to walk away knowing how to do web design/development, but I want them to have a good foundation to be more effective as internet marketers. Thanks!

• Answer:

  1.  Marketing is useless without metrics.  Know how to setup, read, and analyze Google Analytics. This includes page level tracking, custom events, and goals tracking.  A strong foundation here will allow them to  improve their creations (and thus their customers' results) over time instead of just throwing it out into the ether and hoping it sticks. 2.  Required Reading:  Don't Make Me Think, Gorilla Marketing, Duct Tape Marketing 3.  Required Upkeep:  The marketing world is ever changing.  Listen to the following podcasts on a weekly basis: Spoolcast, Six Pixels of Separation, The Bean Cast, Duct Tape Marketing Podcast.  Read the following as often as they post:  Smashing Magazine, UX Movement.  Also, find out who the though leaders are in the industry you're following and follow them on twitter. 4.  For front-end development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript are givens.  Beyond  that: learn JQuery, JQuery UI, and JQuery Mobile.  2/3 of all internet sites using JavaScript use JQuery.  Very useful for rapid prototyping and finished products.  Broad community support. 5.  Learn Drupal.  This  takes some study as it's not completely intuitive.  Maybe start with a book on this one buy once you get good with Drupal (and it takes very little time) you can have a site with very core functionality (login, user management, content creation) up in less than a day and add all sorts of other functionality without touching a single line of code.
