How and where can I submit articles to be published in an academic journal?

How does a blog writer submit articles for publication in places with greater penetration?

  • I'm a scientist/policy wonk who's been writing about climate change and energy issues for a while now on my personal blog. My site doesn't get a whole lot of penetration, so I was wondering what someone does to get their articles published in bigger venues. Outside some Op-Eds, I've never done this before, so I wouldn't even know where to submit.

I would also suggest commenting as a strategy - when bloggers see you repeatedly reading and giving quality feedback on their articles, they'll begin to respect you as a knowledgable member of said community. Head to blogs with similar themes - especially those that you want to be published on - and make some insightful and regular comments.

Guest posting is a great way to network with other bloggers of similar interest. It also get's your name in front of readers who are interested in your topic, but haven't found your blog yet. I would also make a page on your blog that says you are willing to write for other publications and how they should contact you. If you include links to other work you have published on the internet, they can see your body of work and get in contact with you.
