What should I do in order to change career to web development or software development for a mechanical engineering student with M.S degree?

I've done thesis project for Mechanical design programming on C++, Python, and took a undergrad data structure course in Java.

If you want to get hired to do something, you should already be doing it. That means go back to school and get a degree in CS or do stuff on your own. If you choose the latter, open up a public github account and get to coding. Also, seems to be incredibly popular
