Accounts receivable resume.

How do you include social media accounts on your resume (LinkedIn, Twitter, Quora)?

  • I would like to list these under my contact info on the top of my resume. What format is appropriate and how do you refer to these accounts? Links to sample resumes would be helpful!

  • Answer:

http://About.Me is a great website that acts as a social media landing page.  I'd recommend setting up shop there and listing your http://About.Me on your resume.  They make it very easy to add social networks which are recognizable by their icons.  You can check out mine http://About.Me/OwenPaun for an example page.

If you are a developer and want to share your developer and social contributions online. Check out  http://shyahi.com/ which allows you to build a profile to showcase your developer contributions and social activity. Its free, easy to set up and pulls in your stats directly from Dribbble, Github, Stackoverflow, Twitter and your blog feed which means that your Shyahi profile is always up to date. You can also add your skills and a more formal resume to your Shyahi profile. Have your contributions speak for yourself.

I tend just to list my main homepage URL, which in turn links to everything else. That way I'm just passing out one address which is under my control, and I can alter where it points to over time. Perhaps just include it with your other contact details, like your phone number?

I'd argue that the traditional resume is an artifact of the past millenium - instead, Twitter, LinkedIn, Quora (and your blog, if you have one) ARE your resume today. So, along those lines, I'd recommend linking to your blog.  From your blog, link to your other social media accounts (e.g. Twitter, LinkedIn, Quora, etc.). If you don't have a blog and you're seeking a new job, I suggest you start one.

Unless you are applying for a social media-related job and want to show off your wide social media presence, include only the ONE url that is most relevant at the time you send in your resume, which should be the one that is most impressive in reinforcing what you say in your resume. Ideally that is your blog/portfolio, or else a social media profile such as your LinkedIn profile. If you do use your LinkedIn profile, make sure to set up your vanity url first: http://jobmob.co.il/blog/gigantic-linkedin-job-search-tips/#vanityurlYou should include a summary of link posted.

You could use http://about.me to easily create your own homepage and link out to all other sites. The format allows you to inject a little personality into your profile and you can also use their stats package to see how people are interacting with your page.  Hope this helps!

My latest resume is web layout inspired. The page orientation is landscape. The main body is to the left and is the primary stuff. The right column is secondary info, for example contact details including social media profiles. Aside from the online version I also have a PDF version with live links. If you PM me I can send you the link, or email you a copy. It's not a standard approach but I believe it works really well.

I just finished my first 'visual' resume and included a slide called 'contributions' with screen shots from my various blogs/social media sites.  I also made a slide called 'buzz' which included comments/reviews of my work.

http://Flavors.me is another homepage option where you can list all of your social media networks. http://Flavors.me and http://about.me both offer free trials. I suggest trying them both and using the one that suits your needs the best.

I think Linkedin link and a blog (about our expertise) is a plus in the Resume. But FB or Twitter I don´t think so.
