Which has a better placement scope: software engineering or computer science engineering?
-
hi all. im just about to start my college life. initially i was more interested in Computer science engineering, but my love for learning programming and become an expert coder so as i can develop my & make my own games and software has put me into a dillemma of choosing between Software Engineering AND Computer Science Engineering . moreover im interested in working with tech giants like Microsoft, Google And Facebook. Their Offices and salary packages are just awesome. so again here i raise one more query "how do i get a placement at any of above companies with some good hefty package?" although salary doesn't matter that much but my main point is how do i get companies to get me a job at theirs (and/or if im not in any reputated college)? does my choice between Software engineering and computer science engineering will matter with my placement and package?

Answer:
It seems like you want several different things at once. On the one hand, you want to make your own games and software; on the other, you want to work for a tech giant that will pay you a huge salary for some skill that you do not yet have. Once upon a time, there was no such thing as a distinction between a "computer science" degree and a "software engineering" degree. When I went to college, in the 1980's, you could study Computer Science, or you could study Electrical Engineering. I studied Electrical Engineering, but took experimental coursework for a new major called Electrical and Computer Engineering that was not formally available until after I graduated. The reason I mention this is: the title of your major does not define what you know, or the value you have to yourself as an entrepreneur or to a hiring manager; your coursework, experience and independent studies do. Look at the curriculum for each major. Decide which one teaches you things you want to know. Become good at those things, and you will find work. Maybe that work will satisfy your soul, or maybe it will just be something you do to make money so that you can satisfy your soul in your spare time. It's really too early to tell!
