Which are the google algorithms?

How do Baidu search algorithms work and how do they differ from Google's?

• What kinds of queries does Baidu focus on? I've heard that Baidu still places emphasis on meta keywords and description, as well as keywords in the page, which explains why so many Baidu search results are spam comments in forums and keyword-stuffed websites. Baidu is also a massive company with a large R&D investment, so it would surprise me if the search algorithms were really that basic. Obviously I'm comparing it to Google, which may not be fair as Google is likely optimised for different kinds of queries, as Greg points out in the comments. I've heard people tell me that Baidu search is more tailored to Chinese language, which would make sense, but if it's just looking for quality content then why should it matter? In my experience Google is also very good at finding Chinese content. Google search also serves to force websites to improve their site's content, semantic markup, and performance. Most Chinese websites don't seem concerned with such issues - is it perhaps because Baidu search algorithms don't value them as much?

  During anhttp://www.cikm2013.org/slides/kai.pdf, Kai Yu (on the photo of mine, sorry for poor quality), the deputy managing director of Baidu Institute of Deep Learning, shared that they heavily use deep learning for various search tasks including image search (of course, as Google does), and voice search. Interestingly, to the best of my knowledge, this was the first reported usage of deep learning, which incorporates text for deep learning models, from a major search engine.
