How do I market IT effectively?

How do companies market to webmasters effectively?

  • For example, companies like Disqus, Urchin/Google Analytics, Woopra etc., target specifically at webmasters, but how did they do the marketing and promotion when they just began? How about when they've become matured? Traditional online advertising doesn't sound effective, since only a small fraction of Internet users are webmasters.

  • Answer:

For us, we began by really just focusing on the product. If you build a cutting edge technology, influencers and website owners will take note - guaranteed. Then they'll start talking about it and spread the word for you. It's great to get this kind of organic word of mouth because it proves that you've created a really good, useful product. Up until now, this has been our PR strategy and it's been bringing in tons of users. It has also parlayed into features in Mashable, ReadWriteWeb, TechCrunch etc. Hope that helps!
