How to get better at business??

How difficult is it for me to get into Harvard Business School for an MBA right after graduation? Is it better to get a job and then try for admission?

  • Answer:

Unless you apply via 2+2, which has very high admissions standards and requires you to work for two years before attending HBS, you are better off working and then applying. In fact if you go to http://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/Pages/from-the-admissions-director.aspx?showall=1  and scroll down to the post from July 24, 2013, you will see that HBS took no one during the last three years with 0 years of work experience and less than 5 with only one year of work experience during each of the last three application cycles. If you do decide to apply or for those of you with a few years of work experience, you might be interested in http://www.accepted.com/mba/harvard_business_school_guide.aspx . Best, Linda Abraham

One of the largest complaints about MBAs today is that they have too little experience.  These complaints are coming from industry.  If you're interested in consulting, then you can get an MBA will little experience.  But if you're looking to get high level positions, you'll need more experience.  Of course, you can always get the MBA, go into consulting for a few years and then move over to the management role.
