What are the main activities and tourist attractions in Naxos, Greece?

  There are some archaeological sites (Portara, Grotta, the Castle in Chora and Kouros [1] at Apollonas) the Archaeological Museum and several monasteries. Nothing very exciting. Naxos has a very diverse landscape and it's worth it to get a car or motorcycle and tour the island, exploring the secluded coves and the mountain villages, the most characteristic of which is Apeiranthos [2]. But basically the greatest attraction are the endless sandy beaches on the East side. There are a lot of watersports available. I reccomend choosing accomodation somewhere along the coast (Plaka, Pyrgaki) and not in or near Chora.
