Best Shops in Rome,Italy?

What is the best way to buy cheap computer parts from physical shops in London?

  • I have been building and maintaining my own computers for 10+ years. When I was living in Paris there was a street called Rue Montgallet with http://www.rue-montgallet.com/boutiques/carte (and maybe as many scattered around the area) selling pieces of hardware at various prices, and when you needed something you could just go there, spend one hour exploring the shops and be almost sure to find it at the best price. Since I have moved to London, I have not been able to find a similar area, and I don't think there is one. I read there used to be a similar area in Tottenham Court Road, but only a few shops remain nowadays. So how do you shop for computer parts at a good price in London in physical shops? I am not interested in specific stores, unless they happen to be in the southwest part of London (the area between and immediately around the south branches of the Northern and District lines.) The consequence is that I rely more on online shopping, but shipping is usually either slow or expensive, not to mention unreliable, and sometimes you can't wait for a few days.

  • Answer:

Other than Tottenham Ct. Rd. haggling (some of the shops are quite well hidden), you can look up Computer Fayres which are often held at schools and town halls at weekends all around London. As I remember, there's a big computer fayre somewhere around Tottenham Ct. Rd., though I haven't been to that one in many years. Since you still would need to wait for the weekend, you're still probably better off with online shopping if you need something just after Sunday. Edit: See comment below by Mike Lambert.

No one buys tech in shops anymore I am afraid. Tottenham Ct Road is the closest thing but you also have to look just off the strip. There are some shops in the side streets that still keep it real. Also there is a computer fair off the South end of Tottenham Ct Road in a hall. You pay a small fee to enter and you have a series of market stalls of computing. Some second hand, some new and always interesting. As an aside on online shopping, I find Amazon Prime membership well worthwhile for saving time and money. Amazon is competitive on price and prime gives you free next day shipping.
