If this is true then I applaud the Governor for taking the initiative to address an obesity problem that put his life at risk. I'm not sure that he needs to publicize that anymore than any other politician needs to announce that he's had hemorrhoid surgery and a hair transplant or that she's had a tummy tuck and facelift.   Public disclosure of health problems that affect someone's ability to serve is honest and appreciated. I'm not seeing how Christie's gastric bypass does anything but improve his health. So what's the big deal?

It's been a while since I've seen such an amateurish and laughably transparent attempt to smear someone. First intimation is that Christie's "hiding" his surgery. He isn't. In fact, he's been pretty open about it. Second is that the mention of the speaker of the assembly's race was non-sequiter, and therefore racist. In fact, if you saw the entire speech, in context, you see that Gov. Christie was making a point about how state democrats (speaker Oliver included) were trying to use the "plight" of african american students in NJ schools, while working, themselves, to limit their choices. In context, it made perfect sense to point out the hypocrisy of an african american speaker doing this. Last, what he actually suggested regarding civil rights was that, if given the choice between a referendum or a bloody civil war, the people of the south would most likely have voted in favor of it, giving blacks their rights without that conflict being necessary. (this, in referential comparison to democrat insistence on forcefully legislating gay marriage legality, instead of just allowing a vote one it, which polling shows would pass, anyway.) So, next time you try to smear someone, it might benefit you to do a little homework, first- and not to assume that everyone else is a complete idiot and will just buy into this nonsense without thought.

On the issue of his "hiding" his weight loss surgery, the guy probably wanted a little medical privacy and didn't want the news media hounding him as he went through the procedure.  I doubt that is going to hurt him.  Though, as a presidential candidate, those days will be over.   I, for one, am glad it was down played and we didn't have to read about it for weeks, but that is just me.   With regard to the rest of it, people like Christie because he does not shy from controversy.

He has many times openly said he has a weight problem. You have a problem because he doesn't want the world to immediately know he had surgery to address?   I guess if you don't like someone, you'll find any way to bash him...

His weight?  No.  Seriously.  Shoot, are you not more than a few pound overweight, rather, should we discount or question all FAT people in the voting polls?  And I'm sure you know quite a few!!  As long as you're at putting people down because of their appearance, why don't you throw a jab at our President's skin color?
