Does Quora use Anonymous' identity for its algorithms?

• They certainly prevent any kind of visibility of Anonymous' identity. But do they use the identity for things like People Rank, or to bump up the content in a follower's News Feed? How random is the propagation of the content. Also, do they take into account anon answers written by a user when they select the Top writers for a given year?

  Speaking for myself, from personal observation, and not speaking for Quora: A Named user's People Rank is not used for their Anonymous content -- you can check this for yourself by visiting one of your own highly-placed answers and note its place on the page. Now, make it anonymous and reload the page. Whee! It's moved (probably). Propagation of Anonymous content to you would be based on some mystical brew of number of upvotes and the identity of the upvoter, whether you follow these folk, in topics or questions you or the upvoter follow. Some apparently random Anonymous content might be shown to you because of its popularity or interest elsewhere on the site ('trending'). Anonymous answers do not contribute to a user's TW status because these answers are not recognisably associated with any Named profile. There is a penalty for using Anonymity. In general, Anonymous content might quickly be devalued by the Quora ranking system because the system responds to (and tries to recognise) possible abuse of anonymity. There is a presumption of good faith in Named content that is removed in Anonymous contributions. To reiterate an observation from elsewhere: each user has a Named profile, and an Anonymous profile. These profiles are not linked, except for credit accounting and notification purposes, where it is in machine-read indexes. These links are neither visible nor able to be inferred on the site, though there is human access available to a small number of Quora employees in Quora Towers.
