How many students study law in America each year?
-
Note, what is the total number for all three years of law school combined? i.e. not just first year students.
-
Answer:
For the 2009-2010 academic year, there were 154,549 individuals enrolled at American Bar Association accredited schools. This number includes individuals in post-J.D. programs. The number of individuals in J.D. programs only was 145,239. Neither number includes enrollment at law schools not accredited by the ABA (most of these are located in California) or individuals "reading law" by bypassing the law school requirement for bar admission in states that allow such a maneuver. Here is the information published by the ABA: http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/migrated/legaled/statistics/charts/stats_1.authcheckdam.pdf
