How do I search for a user?

How do predictive search results (e.g. from Google) differ from one mobile user to another, or from mobile to PC?

  • Google is known to show SERPs as per your user behavior. Mobile users rely on predictive search is what research says. In that case would predictive search for every mobile user throw up different options? would the predictive search on my pc yield different options than predictive search on my mobile? are there emulators that show what predictive search on mobiles would generate (i know its asking for a bit much here! :-))

  • Answer:

Great question! Predictive search complete are understandably used quite a bit in mobile, and the new query builder tool in Android phones is a further extensions of the same concept. Mobile users will have different suggestions based on (phone and, if applicable, Gmail) personalization and location settings. Google suggest will be impacted very little by personalized settings - I wouldn't really worry about personalized results, because they have such a small impact and almost impossible to account for. Mobile searches are generally more geographically sensitive. You can get a pretty good idea of what a mobile user might see by changing your location within Google. In Bluffdale, UT, for example, starting a search with "Thai " on my phone (with location on) and my computer brings up very similar suggestions and results. The best emulator is just a Google search with the location altered and reloaded.
