What was the Ideal Wife in the 1950s?

During the 1950s, 80% of the photos developed by Kodak were panoramic, and fewer than 20% were of wife, children, or pets; how and why has this changed?

    I'm unfamiliar with this stat. What is the source? I did a Google search and couldn't come up with anything close to this type of stat. By and large the interest in photography for mass consumers has always been on families. As more nature and outdoor photographers began to share their work more people took an interest in emulating this type of work. The vast majority of my family's photos from the 50's are of family events (birthdays, holidays, weekend trips and vacations). There are photos of scenic views but by and large they're the minority.

When I started in photography I was interested in family photos.  Later, when I became very serious about photography and was using a view camera regularly I was interested mainly in landscapes and to a lesser degree family portraits.  Now, with digital my primary interest is sports (gymnastics) and family. People change. Technologies change.  Emphasis in periodicals change.  Books, like Ansel Adams works get published and become very popular.  These things set trends.

When photography was scarce (i.e. film, not digital), cameras were only used at "special times". This included christmas, birthdays, weddings. It also included trips. Probably most of the pictures were taken on trips, just because christmas, birthdays, and weddings don't happen as often.

Film and cameras got cheaper, so people began to feel that they could use them on less grandiose subjects.  Nowadays 80% of photos are of cats playing the piano!
