How do I start a career in finance?

Is getting a CFA certificate really helpful for a non-IITian (from colleges like NITs, NSIT, DTU) to start a career in finance?

  • What are the various other options that one can explore during his stay at college campus so as to make a better profile for finance/investment banking?

  • Answer:

Well to tell you honestly CFA will not be your direct ticket to land up in a finance job right after college , as you cannot appear for CFA until you are in your final year or graduated . This particular course will keep you afoot with the applicants no doubt but since you are from an engineering background try to have more experience in the field of finance by taking up a summer internship as that will delve into the intricacies of the work . Who knows you might get lucky and end up getting PPO. But be sure that without any practical exposure its really tough to bag an actual job in this sector . Apart from internships you can also do some certification courses of NSE & BSE. Just build up an acumen for it and rest will be taken care of by what you do. Good Luck !!!
