Is it crazy to start a new career at 30?

What's the best argument for why one wouldn't be committing career suicide by doing a start-up mid-career (age 30+)?

  • Answer:

In Silicon Valley and most other tech clusters, trying to start your own company is normal part of many people's careers. Provided you make a serious attempt, no-one will consider it to be lost time. Technical career progressions are usually quite non-linear and its usually considered a positive if people have some variation in their resume.

Because if you don't do it now it's likely you'll never do it. You'll also miss an opportunity to learn more than what you probably know now. A 9-5 career is something you can always bounce back into. A good employer will appreciate that you took risks and put it all on the line.
