Can you create personal landing page in Wordpress?
-
I plan to install wordpress on my personal domain for a blog and to avoid the fuss I've been having getting it on a subdoman/subfolder, but would quite like to have a personal landing page. How easy would it be to do this using wordpress, and what would be the most effective/user friendly way to do it?

Answer:
Here are the steps you need to follow. 1) Install WordPress on your domain 2) Create new Page (call it "Home", "Welcome" or whatever you want). 3) From the Dashboard go to Settings>Reading and where it says "Front Page Displays" select the second option. Then use the drop-down menu to select the Page you created in step 2. 4) No more steps. Use the Edit Page screen to make your front Page look however you want. If you want to do anything really advanced it will help to learn HTML and CSS.

Hi, if you want a quick way of building landing pages in WordPress, and you donât care that much about optimizing code at the moment, then plugins are where you should go.You know, the landing pages require a simplistic and minimal design, and more elements that need to stand out and present the visitor with an obvious action point â things like buttons, links, testimonials. You can create these elements manually, either in Photoshop or through CSS/HTML, but thereâs a faster solution, and itâs called https://www.mageewp.com/magee-shortcode.html.It is a responsive WordPress plugin boasting 55+ shortcodes. Compatible with most WordPress themes, you can easily customize page layouts and post content with built-in options, change size, color, action model, etc. You can also get how your inserted shortcode effects before it goes live and obtain fantastic portfolios with just a click of mouse.

Sure you could use open source platform WordPress for that. With a couple clicks you can set up WordPress, add a theme to it and use it for your landing. You also get the options to use themes and plugins developed by the huge WordPress community. If you have requirements like MailChimp integration, Like/Share Buttons or anything else, consider it done with just a couple clicks, using plugins which seriously broaden the capabilities of the system. There are so many plugins to make perfect landing pages with WordPress. Try Qards http://showcase.designmodo.com/new-qards/ - this is a best one.

Idea 1: Add an index.html file to the root directory. To create an especially unique, personalized home page which breaks from the design of the rest of your site, you could also save any page coded in html as index.html in your site's root folder. This index.html file will be displayed instead of the WordPress' index.php file for visitors to your root domain. See this solution in action on my personal site for the next few months. http://glennfriesen.com/ ----- Idea 2: Add a modal window with your personalized content. Example of a modal window with some content in it. If this were a personalized message, you could make it so this modal window displays to every new visitor regardless of their landing page. Another idea is to compose what would have been your personal landing page content in a modal window which appears on a visitors first visit to your site. Thus, no matter what page on your site the visitor visits, they'd be exposed to your personal landing page as their "first impression" no matter what landing page they actually visit. http://acooke.web.wesleyan.edu/cookies.html See this solution in action on pages inside http://smashinghub.com, like http://smashinghub.com/html5-web-forms-tutorials.htm ----- Idea 3: The standard, generally recommended solution. Otherwise, the standard, optimal solutions are described by other respondents here. Perhaps the best solution is the one WordPress recommends on how to create a static front page: http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

The OP asked for a user friendly way to do this. This is not user friendly but accomplishes same goal and is more dynamic. Duplicating the index.php file renaming it as front-page.php. Modify the code as you see fit.

It's not wordpress, it has its own CMS. http://squeegeepage.com - You need Windows hosting and a domain name. Easy wysiwyg editor and easy to customize. But it's not free. Backend is not as polished as the big boys but the end result is just as nice!
