What should I prepare for studying abroad?

How do we exactly prepare for JEE Main and Advanced (including time, rest, etc.)? Should we prepare notes for EACH chapter? Or is studying directly from the NCERT textbooks enough? And is it an absolute necessity to refer 2-3 other books as well?

  • Even if we do prepare notes, is it enough to just note down the important points? Or is it always better to note down everything as few days before the exam, we'll just have roughly go through everything?

  • Answer:

For mains: Chemistry- only NCERT Physics- H.C.Verma is enough if u do all the problems and selected topics from NCERT. Maths- NCERT is too easy but complete it first. Then solve all level-1 problem of any coaching module. Don't ever give jee mains without completely solving last 10 years problems at least twice. 30% of the questions are repeated in mains. Yeah, that's true. No coaching institute tells so because it would bankrupt them. You can check it for yourself though. In 2013 offline exam, there was not even a single question in maths which had never been asked before. Questions in physics are quite good but very easy if u have completed HCV. Don't concentrate on theory. Only practice. All the entrance exams except advanced are based on your ability to cram stuffs. Any average student can crack them. And yeah. The most important thing. Make proper notes of things you have problem remembering. Score at least 95% in boards. Believe me getting 95% in boards is way easier than scoring even 130 in mains. For advanced: i am not the right person to answer it for advanced. Find that right person. Don't go on taking advise from everyone.

Hi Thanks fr A2A :) Sad it is but prep for iit jee and 12th boards are vastly different things. I am putting my advice as tips : 1.Command over ncert does help.Try to attempt all questions given at back. They ll help in building approach startrgies and campus. 2.Coaching does http://help.So join it if your finnances permit as they are damn costly now a days. But are not useless, they help you with evrything fron planning to concepts building to mock tests to startegy formations via analysis. 3.Don't follow too many books.Follow standard books or any iit jee study material. They are all same. Most of questions are same 4.Mock tests are very http://important.So give as many you can. They are only way to know your preperation level and let you make strategy to attempt paper to get high scores. Better to join a test series as you ll have reak time envrionment. 5. Find out last years cut http://off.So, that you can know how much you have to score. http://6.As for motivation, you need it too much as you ll want to give up coz of n number of reasons. My idea of same is go visit an iit and an average college.Meet the people there.Know about placements and future plans.feel the difference in iit and other college. Will motivate you a lot knowing what your life can be. All the best Abhi

Notes in physics, according to me are necessary because they will help you understand the chapter, concepts and problems you will encounter. As far as maths and physical chemistry are concerned, well, they are more practice intensive rather than concept-intensive. You can probably make a formula list and keep on revising. You can add a couple of points that you feel are a MUST to remember. As far as Inorganic and Organic is concerned, I feel rather than making intensive notes covering all things, you can use, say your class notes or NCERT (for inorganic) and you can use sheets to classify your study as Named Reactions, Common Names, Preparation Methods, Colours, Alloys, Important Reactions, Heating Effect, etc. I've shared my experience in making notes on my blog - here is the link. I've also posted pictures of some of my physics notes - http://narayanibhatia.wordpress.com. Good Luck :)
