How can I learn to write more clever poems?
-
Do you know any theories of the aesthetics and techniques in poems? I'm usually more interested in that. But whatever floats your boat. I appreciate your answers.

Answer:
Put together a poetry anthology made up of the types of poems you want to write. This will force you to read a lot of poetry while you search for the best ones to include in your anthology. When done, you'll learn which techniques seem to work best, and be in a better position to write your own poems. I helped a friend create an anthology of love poems. Shortly after we were done I wrote one of the best things I had ever written, and something I had never imagined I would, a love poem.

Falling in Love, is definitely one way to begin poetry. If you can't find the right person, fall in love with the thing you enjoy the most. Spend more time doing that. Observation matters. Observe! It's not a rule but its a necessity. No art comes without observation. Particularly observation and depiction of small things matters most! Observe the minute details, observe the larger picture. Scale doesn't matter. What matters is that you enjoy observing something. Perspective! Add your own perspective to your work. Don't think what other will appreciate about the object. Art is another entrepreneurship. You know you have an idea but you don't know how other will perceive it. Nevertheless you keep on trying. Do it. Notice what gets your attention most. Think why it attracts you. What you observe in the thing you love will not even be noticeable to someone else. Source: http://arvindpariti.blogspot.in/2012/02/funny-forced-perspective-photography.html Patience! No art comes on the day one. Sure there are artists who excel in their first few go's but they just find area out of luck. After that what they do is passion and hard work. Keep trying and experimenting, you will reach your best zone.

My friend the ability to write poetry isnt some skill that can be learnt and applied ... theres no formula to it like mathematics. Its something that comes from within a person , classes can only give you an idea . Think of something or someone that has/had an impact on your life (eg: the person you love/loved ,etc) make points of how it/they impacted you and what all was it that impacted you. Once youve got all that set , make that into a poem. I hope what I just shared with you helps you. Best of luck
