How is life in Bangalore?

How is life at SRI - Bangalore?

  • What is male:female ratio? What are the chances of growth? How many employees are there? After what period increment on salary is done and on what basis? etc..

  • Answer:

I worked here for 6 months and then switched to other MNC . According to me , its not a good Company to work with if you have any other options available due to the following reasons: 1.Korean Culture: Their culture is pretty bad. They treat indians like a shit. you can google it if you want, it's ranked 3rd worst working culture among all countries in terms of Work. 2.Politics: A lot of politics has been played here in almost all the teams . if you stay here for 2 years , your carrer as a politician have a very good chance :p . 3.Work/Life Balance: you have to rub your ass for 9 hours minimum whether you have some work or not. 4.Appraisal: if you are able to complete your work deliverables on time then also you won't get any much appreciation from you manager.

Recently in 2015, Samsung Research Institute - Bangalore, has broken all the previous records of corporate hypocrisy. Up to this year we have seen that, IIT people (Tier 1 as per samsung's dictionary) were given ratings 1 and 2 on average, and all the other guys despite their hard work were getting peanuts. But this year they have came up with the solution by giving 3 ratings to every average fellow, AND WITH 3 ratings only, average IIT people gets 20% hike and all other gets 6% peanuts. Bravo...This is something new in the market... When HR was confronted, they say they have limited say in hikes and they have hidden their faces behind the name of HQ (Korea.) Now this is another shit given by them, as they were indirectly saying they are there for the sake of the role called 'HR'. IF YOU HAVE READ TILL HERE, FOLLOWING GOES WITHOUT SAYING.... QUALITY of WORK AT SRI-B IS....wait for it.....shiiiiit

I did my internship there last year for 2 months. M:F ratio is fine. And why would you even care? If want to have a gf, there are already too many girls there in Bangalore. Lots of employees. Two 10-floored buildings packed with cubicles. No idea about increment process (of course!). About work and life: work life is fine there. There isn't much workload; sometimes none, which can be bad if you want a strong career and not just roam around the cafeteria the whole day. Though you have to stick there for 9 hours but you won't be working for more than 5-6 hours except when deadline is near. Quality of work depends on which team you're in. And trust me there aren't many teams which are working on any latest technology or "good" projects. Growth: No idea in general but every employee (young ones, who were having experience of not more than 2 years) I met there and talked to, including my mentor, every body said, if possible try to get into some other company. And they always hesitated when I asked if SRIB isn't good enough. So you decide. Every month they conduct "Employee of the month" event where they reward winning employee with a cheap samsung phone. But what matters is the reward, not the reward-price. These things are now done in every company and these are nothing but hoax. All the reviews here I read so far are bad. Well don't beat yourself up. You might get something good. And if you are not satisfied, don't hesitate to switch even if they are paying lesser because in long run that won't matter at all.

I am working here for the last 10 months. So I will share some of my experiences. Lemme clear your first query regarding male :female ratio . If you are joining as a fresher then no worries. The induction program is quite good here (though its only good thing till now as I have experienced) and therein you will be interacting with a lot of girls and if you are dynamic and people-oriented, you will get some close matches. If you make yourself involved for the initial induction period, you will enjoy the company . But, as you are coming to Bangy , there are many beautiful girls out here so you can enjoy on weekends. However, in Samsung the ratio is fine. But, there are teams where out of 50 members, null is the count of girls. So it depends on the team you are in. The employee strength is decreasing exponentially from the last couple of months. Currently its around 4000 -4500 , though not very sure. Regarding work culture, it can be said its strict. Since its a Korean company  the work culture is a bit more strict that western countries with respect to working hours and policies. The worst is the management communication. You will be informed about same thing in a different manner from different authorities.  You can never rely on your senior's statement as he himself can never rely on his senior's. Even they are not aware of the authentic information. So lots of speculation happens and suddenly the management's decision comes which no one would have expected and hence the outrage. Regarding growth, you can refer the answers mentioned below. But thats not always the case. If you are good, you will be rated well. The worst policy which I feel is the applying of Bell curve (FYI : Bell curve is a method in IT companies to give ratings to their employees.  According to this curve,  the manager has to give someone bad rating based on the threshold set by management for that team. And hence someone has to suffer.) So due to this,  the mindset of people has become self centred instead of team centred. Team culture is missing to some extent. Though there are teams which do have very good environment but number of such teams is less. So, its again like the school kind of competetion. If you are mailing first, you will be in the mind of your manager. You wont help your fellow colleagues incase he gets higher ratings than you. May be, some managers do not entertain such activities but most of the reportees do feel like this and do not help their team members full heartedly. So these things are not allowing us to stay here for a long time. The current situation is very bad in here. So, people here are hoping for the grand success of Galaxy S6 which might change the fortunes and mindset of people in samsung. Last but not the least, Samsung does not give you the sense and feeling of ownership. So, you may not prefer it in the long run . Rest is fine :P Cheers !!

I work here. There are two things... 1. if you are married -Then don't join it. There is no work from home policy and you have to mandatory stay 9hr in the office. 2. If you are Single- Then timing may not be problem for you but you won't be able to have fun as your friends will have who are not working in Samsung. Male to female ratio is ok. Every year in April increment  is done. Its based on your performance , how you delivered your work, If you file a patent , and also how many times you saved your boss a**. If you are  someone, your boss can count on that whenever required you will get your a** fu*** and save his then no worry for promotion and increment. Remember to be that you may need to spend 12 to 15hr of time in office to be that person. PS. I am not that guy, but there is one guy in my team.

Has a Very Bad Work Culture &  Environment - Employees are not valued at all..., No work-life balance  ;  Lot of Office Politics.... Bad Senior Management; Teams are an  average of 25 - 40 people or more... Work depends on the team ...  Usually/Mostly -- No clear vision
