How much time is needed to study for the FAR section of the CPA Exam?
-
I am using Roger's CPA Exam review. The course is phenominal but I am worried about study hours. I am taking the test 2/28 with about 23% done...is there enough time for me to pass this monster while working FT :/ ?

Cool, I'm using Roger's course, too! He's so good at trimming out the fat and teaching you what you need for the exam. In the intro, he estimates 150 hours to study really good for FAR. That means, with 23% done (right on!), you have 115 hours to go. I would say that with working full-time, if you don't have any other responsibilities, and if you can put in 8 hours every weekend day as well as President's Day (if you're lucky to have it off), then that leaves about 6 1/2 hours of study time per day for the other 11 days left before 2/28. I think that means, wake up 3 1/2 hours early every day, then study throughout your lunch break for an hour daily, then focus on it another 2 1/2 hours or more after work every day. Make sure you get enough rest and nutrition, and you should be good to go. Then, yes, if you're motivated and disciplined to give it your all in the next 11 days, you, could pass the exam 17 days from today -- never to look at it again. :) You know what Roger says - If you study, YOU WILL PASS! http://www.rogercpareview.com p.s. And, if you don't finish studying by 2/28 and don't have any more time to extend the exam in the testing window, then, go and take the exam anyway and get what you can out of the experience - you have nothing to lose.

I too am using Roger CPA Review. I am working full time, studying for the BEC Exam (2/28), and have a family (that missed mom). YOU CAN DO IT.... If you are worried about having enough time to watch all the lectures, you may want to switch to the Cram course (http://www.rogercpareview.com/cpa-exam-review-course-cram.cfm), about 11 hours of video. The key is to do the homework and use the software questions too. Good luck.

For anyone that may have the same question, for a different timeline of course, I am currently using the Roger CPA review course for FAR (http://www.rogercpareview/), and he has 3, 6, 9, and 12-month study planners that can help keep you on track. They indicate what lectures you should have completed and when, and itâs a good tool to use if you have a specific time goal in mind. Hope this helps!

I agree with Niusha! If you have 30 days before your test, you can push it back without a fee penalty at the prometric center (as long as it is not beyond your NTS). However, in times past when I was studying for FAR, I kept pushing it back and my studying did not improve. http://www.rogercpareview.com has a great study schedule! I like it because it is based on what you decide and since it is in excel, I move it around to suit my schedule since I travel for work. I passed it while working full time by studying daily (lunch breaks, before work, after work, long days on the weekends). Also, make sure it is active studying which means if you are short on time, watch the lecture and skip straight to the MCQs so that your study time is active. Aim to answer at least 30 questions a day (a testlet). Ideally, answering 90 questions a day, but FAR questions took a long time for me to answer since they were mostly problems.

I'll assume 2/28 means the 28th February of 2016.. That is way more than enough time to not only study, but ace the exam! I started studying for FAR while studying full time at pwc as a senior auditor for 2 weeks, then took a study leave of 10 days right before the exam where I did nothing but study, eat and sleep. I studied and practiced daily for 10-15 hours during these 10 days and passed with a 78 For your reference: I studied using Becker, and I had 2+ years of audit experience.

I used Roger CPA Review's cram course for BEC and passed it with flying colors. I work a full time job and and have family obligations to my husband and child. I have also used Roger for REG and gave myself much more time to study. I just passed! and for me REG has been the hardest section for me of them all. It IS doable. You just might need to space out your exams a little longer or give yourself more time to do it on the weekend. The good thing about Roger is that it helps you keep track of your progress.
