Who Linked My Website?

Should I use a YouTube channel linked to my profile or one linked with a website if I want to brand myself as a self-help author?

  • What would be best from a marketing perspective? I'm running a blog about the scientific analysis of pseudoscience (Taking the pseudo out of pseudoscience).  Right now the main focus is the analysis of eastern spirituality and occultism and how it relates to modern psychology. In 2 months I'm launching a product called "Psychotao"  with the tagline "Evidence-Based Ancient Wisdom". In it I'll teach traditional and modern meditation techniques, upgraded with the understanding that latest studies on meditation gave us. So I either thought to go full on "Personal brand" on this one and use my google profile along with the channel url: http://youtube.com/user/mattpeplinski Or go with the branded page called:  http://www.youtube.com/user/empiricspirit I guess this also is related to marketing strategy my domain name is currently http://mattpeplinski.com, as I had http://empiricspirit.com before but    in the future I want to expand my topics to the scientific analysis of natural remedies and other forms of natural healing, and I wondered whether the name "Empiricspirit" would fit that brand positioning. Right now my topic is: "The Scientific analysis of eastern wisdom" (And currently I focus on "the scientific analysis of the concept of energies. I'll even launch a book on that in a month) from which I plan to graduate to "The scientific analysis of nautoropathy" (It's connected because ancient chinese (chinese medicine) and hindu (ayurveda) cultures used herbal remedies to heal people) Then I want to graduate to the scientific analysis of sexuality in spiritual traditions.  And then I want to move into the scientific analysis of things like the Silva method, NLP and other self-help techniques that are criticized by skeptics on sites like http://skepdic.com Essentially it's http://examine.com/+ http://www.stevepavlina.com/. I hope that this gross overview of my strategy will help you tell me whether or not I should use a youtube channel connected to my google profile (matt Peplinski) or a google page named empiricspirit:) Well I would like to mostly brand myself. And segment my audience using squeeze pages like http://psychotao.com . The reason why I wanted to use  http://youtube.com/user/empiricspirit is because a google page can be updated with hootsuite, while a google profile can't. That was one of the main reason. But yes I mostly want to brand myself as an author, so I wonder wheter or not I should just link it to my google profile, as no one uses google+ anyways. Thank you for reading this post.

Thanks for your A2A. I agree with , as well as with -- you can link them all together. Review your desired long-term goal and keep your options open toward whatever that end is.

Personally, I'd go with the page - but if you want to promote yourself rather than just the topic, go with the profile: that'll give you more flexibility to change direction.

In order to find the answer you are looking for you need to ask yourself: What is my end game? - What do you want to achieve at the end or as some people would put it What's your exit strategy? A. Somewhere down the line you want to sell your business and retire on a beach somewhere. Your best bet would be to brand it as EmpiricSpirit. It is hard to sell a business, directly tide to your name/personal brand. B. You really don't plan on selling the business and/or raising funding. Personal branding would be a better choice. You will have a little bit more leverage, establishing a connection with your readers. It is simply easier to relate to a person than it is to a company/brand. There is no right or wrong answer really. It all depends on what you plan to do in the future (5+ years). Just make a choice and stick with it. Also you seem to have a tight plan on what you want to release and when. Concentrate on launching your products (videos, books, etc) more and less on the "logistics" of it all. You should be past thinking about your branding and more about pre-launching strategy/content and building anticipation in your readers/users.

I don't think there's a bad answer out of the two options - they're both acceptable approaches. The way I see it, the benefit of the branded one is that it may help you grow into that market easier, and may be able to feature other people in your channel later on. The benefit of the personal one is that if you find that there's a better market to go that's a few steps away from this one, it's easier to transition.

Your personal google plus page can link to the other brand page, and link to the youtube channel. Thus, it will all link up nicely in google search results. You can consider that.

It looks like you decided to go with the brand name as the channel's name and link both your G+ profile and page. If I were in your place, I would have gone ahead with a person's name instead of a brand name for the Youtube channel. Social media has always been and will always be people to people.
