How to set focus on top item?

How do I set focus manually in a lens that does not have a focus ring?

  • I have a Nikon D3100, for which I just bought a Nikkor AF-S DX VR  50-200mm f/4-5.6G zoom lens. This is a CPU lens and works very nicely in  auto-mode, i.e. when you let the camera set the focus. However, I want to also sometimes manually pull focus. How do I do  that with this lens? It seems that it is missing the focus ring. Is it not possible to set focus manually with this lens?

  • Answer:

Im not sure what is actually your problem... If its 50-200 definitely you can manual focus it. If its a 50mm its actually a macro adder lens where you cannot manual focus. Post an image of your lens.

Change the mode switch on lens to M/MF mode if not done already. Many/most lenses won't allow you to manually adjust focus if it is in AF mode. In some of the lenses, there is no "ring", but the whole outer(which is smaller in diameter and further away from the camera) cylinder of the lens acts as the focusing ring.
