Most romantic restaurant in Paris? Affordable too?

Is Le Grand Colbert restaurant Paris as romantic as the movie projects?

  • This is the restaurant featured http://www.legrandcolbert.fr/ in Something's Gotta Give 2003 with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0337741/ another brilliant movie by Nancy Meyers her other masterpiece being It's Complicated with Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1230414/

  • Answer:

Sadly, no. It's great (if slightly expensive) food, and it's famous. Which, in consequence, leads to hordes of "foodies" and other diners to kick in the doors. The few times I ate there recently, the waitstaff was even more stressed and the diners were even more hard to deal with than after Something's. On a very good day you'll have a semi-energetic restaurant, on bad days it's loud, with pushy waitstaff trying to sell you expensive wine and get you out fast. Again, it's a great restaurant. The food is excellent, but it's a victim of its own success and fame in that the flirty Parisien couples eying each other across a flickering candle have been replaced by Joe Bob and Lindy from Arkansas and their three teenage kids.

As a Parisian I do agree with Jonas. Le Grand Colbert is more a classic but great French restaurant. The desserts are incredible. At le Grand Colbert you can often share a table with French actors because there are several theatre not far from there. If you want a more romantic place go to Montmartre or at Georges on the roof at le Centre Pompidou Museum or Le Jules Vernes at The Eiffel Tower.
