How do I get in the tech field?

Is it necessary to do an M.Tech or get an MS to work in the field of artificial intelligence?

  • I am a B.Tech final year student.Initially,I had decided to go for job experience for a atleast two years and then I would go for masters. That is why I did not appear for any entrance exam for M.Tech.Now I am inclined towards the field of artificial intelligence and want to work and contribute in this field. What I want to do using AI: Work for the armed forces. Contribute to the education sector. Work for the physically handicapped people. Sources of Inspiration: I liked the Sci-fi movies, specially the ones related to robotics(Iron man and transformers. These two were the main).Although,it is not possible to develop the technologies in these movies as of now(hope I am not wrong),but I want to give it a shot and learn it as much as I can. I want to know: Is M.Tech(India) from IITs/IISC or MS (abroad) a necessity to work in this field ? If I can work in this field without getting masters degree, how should I start ? Is it too difficult than pursuing it through masters ? Which colleges provide best facilities and education related to this field ? If I go for masters, should I choose M.Tech(India) or MS ? What are the pre-requisites to start working in the field(theories, projects, etc)? I've heard that IITs/IISC ask about year drop.So how can I utilize the preparation time to know more about AI ? Few things I would like to mention: I am not good in probability and statistics(I think these are the main topics to be learnt). Coding part is not too good. Slightly demotivated these days.I think a lot about this and not getting enough guidance on this topic. I've heard that MS is too expensive. I've searched the internet, found nice suggestions but don't know why I find them unsatisfactory ? I'll be grateful if anybody can help.

  • Answer:

yes, you need higher studies to work on AI. with a btech, all you can do is land up a job, and probably gain expertise in that area. chances of your landing a job even remotely related to AI are pretty slim. moreover, the kind of work offered to most graduates in india is maintenance

I am in a very similar situation to yours. I started learning AI extensively through online courses which are FREE, but they are taught by the BEST in the WORLD. I am not sure how this will help me with job opportunities as Indian employers do not generally see value in free online courses.  I am considering higher studies here in India, but competition is very high and I might have to drop a year to get into IISc, top IITs. If you want to learn online, here are some courses you might want to look at: Udacity - Into to AI, Advanced AI, Machine Learning I, II, III. Coursera - Machine Learning, Data Science specialized track, Probabilistic Graphical Models, Discrete Inference in artificial Vision. EdX - Intro to Probability, Intro to Statistics, Intro to computational thinking and data science. These couses are taught by experts in their respective fields and they are all current research professors from MIT, Stanford, UC-Berkley, GeorgiaTech, Google etc.. I have 1 more thing to say to you IMPROVE your PROGRAMMING skills. This will matter a lot.
