Is the dentist career hard to study?

Is it reasonable to wait 6 years before you study dentistry?

  • I am 20. I have to wait 6 years (more or less possible) before I am allowed to study dentistry. From there it will take another 6 years. Wait means that I am not allowed to study anything. I will be 32 when I finish. I am not sure if it is reasonable to wait so many years just to become a dentist. Why do I want to be a dentist? I find the subjects highly interesting. I want to become a incredible dentist, publish books, make studies etc. And to be completely honest the job perspective and salary is also a reason. Why do I have to wait 6 years? The system in germany works like  that. Either you have really good grades or you wait. I never really  knew that I wanted to be a dentist when I was in school. Ok I said it sometimes  for example to the career counselor when they visited the school but  everytime they made fun of me: "No you will never be a dentist... forget  it." Well than I got becomming a dentist out of my head. Instead I unconsciously focused on what everybody told me I am good at:  computer science. But I hate computer science. Why am I asking? I am young, I am unexperienced and I am not sure what life is really about. Are my expectations even realistic? I want to be an  awesome dentist, make studies, travel the world while examining the  teeth and dietary of people. Make people understand to take care of  their teeth in undeveloped countries etc

There's no reason why you can't start a little later in life. I waited about 6 before I started. But in the US, non-traditional students restart their studies on something else a lot. It's a common thing to do something with your life and go back to school in your late 20s and even 30s.
