Where To Party In Cebu?

I am trying new ideas for my small business.  "Plant Parties" where guests create a planted arrangement to take home with themes like autumn, holiday, children, etc. Cost about $30/person.  Would you be likely to have a plant party?  If not, why?

  • Here are more details about the various types of plant parties I've come up with so far.  I'd like unbiased opinions on whether or not this might be an idea that will catch on.  Please be blunt!  Are they too expensive?  Are the descriptions to vague or not detailed enough?  Does it just sound like a dumb idea?  Is it too messy?  Would you have a party if there were photographs of plant parties included?  How much would you pay for a plant party?  Thank you so much for reading! Plant Parties!  Looking for something completely unique to do for a shower, birthday or get-together?  Our plant parties are held at our venue or yours.  We supply all of the materials including plants, containers and frou-frou that are needed for the party and can create a planting party to suit every taste, every budget.  Some of our events include: Terrarium Parties:  (Adults and kids) Terrariums are all the rage these days.  For the party we will make terrariums for sun or shade using succulents, plants or moss.  Each guest takes their creation home. We supply the jars, dirt, plants and even miniature creature figurines to inhabit your terrarium. Guests are invited to bring their own glass container to plant, if they'd like.  The event last for about two hours.  Cost for this party starts at $35 per person, minimum 8 guests.  Wreath Parties:  (Adults and kids) These days it's pretty easy to buy a door-hanging wreath for just about any occasion.  Making your own wreath is fun, easy and we have all the ingredients to make yours truly special.  We start with a basic foundation and add marvelous ornaments, found objects and flora.  We can incorporate party themes into wreaths, too:  Chesapeake, holiday, butterfly, etc.   Prices for this party start at $35 per person, minimum 10 guests.  Re-purposed Silverplate:  What'sin your cabinet?  When was the last time you used the chafing dish that was a Free Gift with Purchase from Macy's?  Re-purposing silverplate into indoor or outdoor floral arrangements makes perfect sense.  We prefer to use succulents for these containers because the pinks, greens, grays and icy blues complement the silver ever so nicely.  If you have your own silverplate to plant, the party is priced differently but we'll bring ours and will even drill drainage holes in the bottoms of outdoor-destined silver.  Cost for this party starts at around $45 per person with a 5 person minimum.  P.S. See picture below and in our gallery for inspiration. Outdoor Autumn Theme Containers:  Okay, there's nothing wrong with simply plopping a mum into a container and calling it a day.  Yet, it could be so much more!  At this plant party we'll make some real show-stoppers that will truly put you in the spirit of fall - foggy mornings, pumpkins arriving at the fruit stands, crisp, turning leaves and freshly harvested apples.   These containers will look great next to the front door with a bale of hay and a few pumpkins.  We will bring containers, soil, plants and enthusiastic know-how.  At least 5 guests for this event is suggested.  The more the merrier.  This party is best held out of doors, but we can accommodate indoor events as well.  Cost for this party averages at around $50 per person.    Rain Garden Parties:  (Adults and kids 10 and up) If you'd like to celebrate an event by giving a gift to the Chesapeake Bay, throw a Rain Garden Party.  Prior to the party we'll help you plan out a small rain garden (about 10x10) and what you'll need to prepare for the event.  On the day of the event, we'll bring rain garden plants, materials, tools and know-how.  These parties are limited to fine-weather days but there is no additional cost for having to reschedule due to inclement weather.  Cost for this party starts at around $500 for the complete package.  The event typically lasts from 1/2 to an entire day and there is a suggested 10 guest minimum.

  • Answer:

Ok. the first thing I thought when I read plant 'party' was hell no! Personally, I despise the 'party' version of sales. I never want to go to a Tupperware party, a jewelry party, a lingerie party, any type of party that I'm guilted into spending money. But....I think your idea is great! Just the wrong venue. I agree with about trying to find a nursery to partner with and instead present it as a class, not a party. Also offer it as a private class for special occasions; like said, brides-to-be would LOVE this! So many want to do the DIY version of centerpieces and bouquets and this would be perfect for that. Make sure to keep it seasonal and I think you could do very well. Good Luck!

I wouldn't go to one of these parties myself but someone with no experience with plants might.  I can think of a few elderly women that'd love this.  Maybe you could offer it to brides-to-be and let them and the wedding party create their own arrangements with a professional helping them? I wouldn't have a photographer there.  We all have cell phones now and take pictures as needed. I wouldn't know how much you should charge for such parties.  It'd probably depend on where you are.

There is a business in my city which does something along this same line, only they do it with paintings.  They supply the canvas, the paints and brushes, the aprons, and the instructor. The designs are simple enough to be accomplished in easy steps and completed in two hours, but colorful and complex enough to be interesting. They will tailor parties for different interests and age groups.  They will come to your home or business, or they hold open nights in their gallery where anyone can sign up to attend. Some of their most popular parties are the adult BYOB nights where everyone gets a little tipsy. If you think about it, a chain business like The Pottery Place is along the same lines.  They provide the materials, instruction if it's wanted, and have both open houses and parties. I have patronized both the art creation place and The Pottery Place.  The prices you are proposing seem in line with what I would expect to pay for these artistic experiences. I remember making a terrarium in art class in high school which had a colored sand design component over which we put the moss and plants. I had mine for several years.  So I think your idea of having a business where people make something like this is a good one. The drawback I see to a business plan such as yours (or the ones I have patronized in my town) is shaky customer base.  You would have to be in a pretty large population center to support your business over the long haul because I don't think you will have a bunch of repeat business.  I know that once I painted a picture with my husband at the create art place, I thought it was fun and I loved that my painting was so much better than his, but we haven't been back.  It was sort of "been there, done that." But, if you were in my city and started your business, I would definitely try out your service once.  I think making terrariums would be fun.  I just don't think I would patronize you on a regular basis. Here are some photos of Jay and me creating.  We drank a couple of bottles of wine and had an excellent time.  This business takes photos of all of its events and posts them on its Facebook page.  If a customer wants copies of their photos, the business will email them.  I liked that.

Thirty dollars per person for a party is too much in my opinion, 45 won't get you anywhere, However, the idea isnt stupid and may work. I would suggest getting a plant nursery to go along with your idea as they would have the clientele most interested in this sort of thing. (civic organizations with retirees, children and home-school groups as well). (For myself, I'd love a rain garden, and understand that would be pricey to set up especially in a day, but financially speaking, I can't possibly afford it.)

If a 14 year old girl could sell jewelry and turn it into an 8 figure a year business before she turned 18 by tossing these so called "parties", I'm pretty sure that there is going to be SOME type of demand for a plant party. I personally wouldn't go, but I'm sure others would. Maybe if I had kids, I'd pay $30/pp to have them go for a few hours. It's better than sending them to a baby sitter, right? If a 14 year old girl can make something work, then so can you. Good luck! http://www.forbes.com/sites/karstenstrauss/2013/10/22/250-million-for-a-14-year-olds-big-idea-origami-owl/

The idea is good...just needs refinement. I think the terrarium concept is popular, and could be done at Fairs, Craft or Farmer's Markets, but then the $30. sounds a bit steep. The bridal centerpieces are a hot idea and could have a party vibe. I would think as a party or team building (maybe a large company for their employees) you need a large selection of interesting containers but I don't know that anyone would want to get dirty.
