Did Tom Hanks win an Oscar for his performance in Captain Phillips? Why?

Answer:
No he did not win an oscar for Captain Phillips. He was not even nominated , which is sad because his performance was splendid. He probably set his own bar too high with Forrest Gump. Still, Matthew Mcconaughey (who won for Dallas Buyer's Club) had a well deserved win.

No, he wasn't even nominated. Tom Hanks should at least have been nominated, though he'd have some really good competitors, especially in Mathew and Leonardo.
