Answer:
I think California is a great place to go for a two week holiday. San Francisco is a lovely city to visit as a tourist, Yosmite is just beautiful, and all the little towns down route 1 have their own particular character and places of intrest. Personally I'm a huge fan of Las Vegas and not a huge fan of LA as a tourist city so if I was going there I would do something like following, but perhaps spend a few days down the coast towards Monterray and Carmel.

For Asians, Hawaii. It is better than advertised and 6000 miles closer than New York. For Europeans, Florida and Texas. It is what we have that they do not. For South Americans Florida or California. That is where their friends and relatives have moved to.

I agree in part with - California is a great introduction to the U.S. and easily do-able in two weeks. I started in LA and stayed there for four nights. Amazing city - see I hired a car, spending three nights in San Francisco, three nights in San Diego, finishing in Vegas for three nights.

The US is huge, and it depends on what you are looking to see (surf/ocean, lakes/mountains, dessert, cities. Where the key "real America" for visitors can be found is in where you stay overnight. If you can stay in homes, you will meet great folks. Hotels are nice, but a locals house can open your eyes to America.

First of all you need to place yourself in another person's shoes. So I think the majestic wonder of this land should be considered first. I recommend that if your a family you should go to the west. Our national parks, especially Yosemite; Zion; Grand Canyon are wonderful experiences. The National Park Pass for a family is $80. You really can't beat that. Its very easy to drive to these locations and the beauty of these areas is second to none. These parks are also not far away from some wonderful amusement parks and big cities. Here is what I would do. Fly to Los Angeles; Las Vegas or Salt Lake City. Rent a car to return to the same airport. Get a weekly rental rate. I will send you an email for $25 off your hotel room on https://www.hoteltonight.com/ or https://www.airbnb.com/c/jbodnar52?s=3&i=1 I know you probably want to pre-plan your hotel but no need. Last minute hotel rooms are very inexpensive thru these two apps. Make sure you get a phone plan that works in this area if your coming from outside the USA. Next travel to the National Parks but consider the amenities of the big cities near these parks. You children may like adventure and I would recommend a day pass at California Adventure/Disneyland. Buy your tickets there at Von's Grocery Store when you get there. Best local price. In LA, you have Knotts Berry Farm and Six Flags. If you fly into Las Vegas, which has many family friendly experiences, rental cars are inexpensive. Staying off the Strip is cheap (with good rooms). Use your app. Drive to Zion National Park or the Grand Canyon. Enjoy both. Select opportunities to visit either Southern California or drive north to Colorado. SO much to see and do. If you want to know more continue reading this string and I will add if you have replies and more questions. But you honestly can make a great vacation for little $. Its a fact.

My wife and I drove from Vermont to Arizona and back in two weeks. We did not pick any destinations. We just drove where we felt and stopped at really neat places. I would suggest the Shack Up Inn in Clarksdale, MS; Bandera, TX, the Grand Canyon - of course. Seriously, it does not disappoint. - Chicago for sure... But we like quirky, out of the way places. Many people coming to the US want to see the big sights, but I would recommend just renting a car and driving. It's a big country, and the people will make it so fun for your friends when they're told that they're just going where the road takes them. That is truly the essence of American, and something you really can't get in other countries.

New York City region (could do NYC, Boston & Washington DC) & California (San Francisco, Sequoia/Yosemite National Parks, Big Sur coastline) are the best areas. Second, I would say Grand Canyon & Miami.
