Where can I find a part time job for summer?

I would like to move to Greece for the summer, find a low maintenance part-time job to cover my expenses, and still have some money leftover to go out. What's the best way to do that?

    I should inform you that Greece has 26% unemployment right now. Finding a job is not very easy. But you can surely find a summer job in the tourism industry (as barkeep, waiter, hotel staff, etc). Foreigners, specially those who can speak several languages are often hired for the summer, combining work and vacations. Expect to do mostly the former though - in Greece "part-time" is an euphemism for "full time - half pay". I don't know how people secure these kinds of jobs. Greeks make use of their informal network of acquaintances. There may be websites dedicated to job postings for foreign staff. Ask around.

Be sure to come with an open return ticket because there's a strong possibility that you won't be able to earn even your air fare home. Wages are low - assuming you get paid at all - and it's not unusual to work a month and have the boss refuse to pay a cent. You're a foreigner, unable to speak the language and without any real legal recourse. (There's a ten year wait for most court cases.) You are totally reliant on the honesty of your employer and I'm afraid that austerity has killed a lot of honesty. So, if you don't get paid after the first week, put it down to experience and move on. The only winners, at present, are the tourists. However, if you like a challenge, if you really love Greece, if you have a winning personality and if you're prepared to work hard for long hours, you might be pleasantly surprised.
