What luxury items offer the best value for the money purely in terms of technical performance, build quality, durability, usability, and/or other attributes?

• Let's face it. Major part of prices of luxury items is based on the brand value. Surely, buying from well-established brands can also mean exclusive buying experience and better after-sale services. However, the qualities of item can seldom justify price of it if brand value isn't taken into account. I like mechanical watches so I'd like open my thoughts via them. These days manufacture watches encompass many highly sophisticated micro-mechanic innovations created by skilled watchmakers. Mechanical watches can be regarded as tools but since cell phones or cheap quartz watches can serve time-telling function equally well or even more reliably justifying the premium price is much harder. What comes production of mechanical manufacture watches I know long term R&D, handmade finishing, quality control in components and composing creates some part of the value and the rest comes from the brand. But to what extent? In case watches purely adding the brand name in the product cannot create the premium price. One cannot compare their price formation with e.g. t-shirts where non-label and brand t-shirts can come from same factory with 100€ difference in price tag inherent product remaining more or less the same. So I'd like to know if brand value is taken away what luxury items you think offer some value for money and why?

  Its tough to separate brand/fashion from everything else, especially in a market where a majority of high end watches use movements from the same manufacturer (ETA).  If all you are after is accuracy, use your cell phone.  If you are looking for a manufacturer that makes their own movements, consider some of the real high end brands like Rolex, Patek Philippe, Breitling, some Omegas, AP, IWC, etc.
