Is it recommendable to pursue a career in oil and gas industry being a mechanical engineer and with the future scope for job opportunities in this field?

Answer:
I am not sure what angle you're coming at. If you have a passion for something then follow it, don't just take any job as a means to an end. This is especially true in the major players in the oil and gas industry where they don't really require you to have a specific degree for a wide variety of jobs since they put you into their own job-specific, internal training programs.
