Where Do I Place Google Analytics Code Inside a .ASPX Page?

Website URL changed from www2 to www. Should I reset Google Analytics code?

  • Earlier website's was on the root folder "WWW2" which was later changed to "WWW". 301 redirect has also been set from www2 to www. Although, Google Analytics is showing data but in-page analytics is not working. Should I generate new GA code for www domain and tag all the pages of website? Same goes for Webmaster Tool.

  • Answer:

To fix In-page analytics, you may just need to update the website URL in the property/profile settings. If you are using the default/uncustomized Google Analytics code, you should not need to regenerate/add code when changing from www2 to www.

I believe you should ask this question in Google Analytics forum. However, typically it's a partitioning strategy, people running large websites do this when they need to break up the load between more than one server. One machine would be called www then the next one would be called www2, etc. Considering this, both are different subdomains but you can still track it with the same analytics code by activating "Subdomains of maindomain.com." and you'll have to metnion one as your main (default) domain in admin >> settings Hope this helps
