How much was pager service in the late 90's?
-
I remember in the late 90's kids writing their pager numbers in yearbooks. This was before cell phone became ubiquitous. Since I never had a pager, I'm curious - how much was a typical pager contract? How much was a pager itself?

Answer:
(Had a couple of pagers, lived through the 90's) A pager itself was fairly inexpensive, like $50 or so. the monthly service was $9.99-$15/month, depending on your carrier. There were a couple of different options, you could just have a straight numberic pager, which showed the number of whomever called your pager number, *or* for a few dollars more a month (and a few more bucks on the pager), you got a service which answered your number, took a message up to 140 characters and sent that to you along with the number (think twitter, only no hashtags or @s).
