What is email marketing tools?

What email campaign software (e.g., MailChimp, AWeber, Mad Mimi Email Marketing, Campaign Monitor) has the best tracking and analytics tools?

  • Answer:

It would be helpful to know which information would be important for your business, to propose an Email Service Provider. Most serious ESPs offer good tracking reports (opens, clicks, bounces, click maps, link performance, A/B tests), and depending on the information you need to review on your email newsletter strategy, you decide which one suits you best. You can use Mailchimp for social integrations, you can use Moosend for serious analytics on list segmentation, you can use campaign monitor as a reseller. Most vendors offer good analytics in one way or another, some perform better some worse, but it all depends on the feeling you have while using their service, so you have to try a couple of options out there, to find your pair. A tool that offers you great analytics, may be very difficult to use. So you may find out that you can do a great job with less information but better interface.

I work with Mailchimp and AWeber, and I've tried a few others that didn't really work out. From my experience, AWeber has a deeper analytics system with more reporting tools than Mailchimp. However the stuff you really care about and check on daily, (list growth, open and click rates, unsubscribes, etc.) are easier to monitor on Mailchimp.

As Alex mentioned, it really comes down to what you're trying to track.  The best email tracking / analysis ties who opened and clicked an email to a meaningful business metric - i.e. a purchase, donation, login, action on a website, etc.  This type of integration lets you know directly what impact your emails have on your business.  For this type of tracking, the three options mentioned need to be supplemented to hook them up to the systems that hold those meaningful business metrics / events (for example, you can use Ecommerce360 with Mailchimp or use their API), though I'd recommend looking at other systems that are focused directly on tying email to business metrics (Klaviyo, of which I'm a co-founder, is one such system) to get better analytics, automation, etc. Alternatively, if tracking purely means who's opening / clicking emails and doing some basic segmentations on that list, there is rough parity across the solutions mentioned - it will ultimately depend on what question you are trying to answer with analytics.

I think you need to go into more detail in your question. Which measurements do you want to report on? Most email systems will give you decent reporting on: Deliverability (Soft Bounces / Hard Bounces) Open Rates A/B Variable testing performance (Subject / Creative) Click Through Rates Link Performance Unsubscribes Forwards/Shares Some might give you click mapping, conversion rates etc. As far as I can recall MailChimp offered all of the above, as did Dotmailer and I'm currently using ExactTarget which also offers the above reports. If your email platform doesn't offer any of the above, I'd seriously consider binning it, or at least considering other options.

BuzzBuilder will track common analytics like opens and click-throughs but can also track forwards and responses. It also has geo tracking so it can tell you the exact location of the subscriber. If you grant access to multiple users (like your sales team) it can also show you a breakdown of stats for each user, which could be helpful if you're comparing how your campaign performs in different regions or markets.

Well, I am not too sure of the above mentioned email marketing softwares, but our very own http://www.leadsquared.com/ is a rather powerful tool. You can not only manage all your leads in one place, but also send email campaigns with better delivery and tracking capabilities. There are dozens of ready to use email templates for Newsletters, Product Promotions, Offers and much more, The HTML editor is also DIY which will give you all the freedom you want to modify templates or design new emails from scratch. You can find which leads are engaging with your email campaigns and finally keep a check on them with complete email campaign analytics.

Email campaign services vary from one another quite a lot, but trying to answer which one offers the best tracking and analytics is hard, because what's best for someone isn't best for someone else. At BIME Analytics where I work, we offer to connect to your http://www.bimeanalytics.com/mailchimp.html or http://www.bimeanalytics.com/campaign-monitor.html for visualizing how many emails you sent, how many recipients opened and see the proportion of clicks, etc. all in a single view. What's more is that you can connect to any other data source, to correlate your Google Analytics data to track those visitors who clicked in your email for example.

I work for Act-On http://bit.ly/1IqRQFQ and our system will not only tie your campaigns through to revenue, but tell you the complete history of engagement of people in your marketing. Web visits, document downloads, events attended, etc. These behaviors will also be scored, so they can move through the marketing funnel in dynamic segments or be pushed to your CRM and stack-ranked for sales.
