What do i do to score this job?

My GATE AIR is 974 and my score is 668. Should I continue with my job or join some college? What all options are available with this GATE score?

  • I have secured All India Rank 974 with Gate Score:668 in CSE. Presently I am well placed at a product based company . I earn 8 LPA which is decent enough I guess . I have two years of working experience . I want to study further , However I think I have a lot to loose than to gain in all feasible college at this GATE SCORE . Can anyone suggest me what should I do as in trying next year for GATE OR continue with my JOB. I am more of a technical guy , would it be good to join NITIE MUMBAI , if got admission over there ? And what more options are available with me at this GATE SCORE

  • Answer:

Earning 8 LPA with just two years of Exp. is more than normal. You said, you are a technical oriented guy and getting a 668 score after 2 years even after working for a 8 LPA software job is evidencial of the same fact.  If you actually earn such a lucrative salary with your technical skills it is worth continuing your present job and try for better overseas options after which you can try for an MBA. On the other hand If you are so religiously technical, try to join IIT M,B, D. or IISc. As also mentioned NITIE is also a great option but chances of getting in  are very lean.

You can probably get into some NIT with that GATE score. But then you do have a decent job as of now, and throwing it away for two years to get a job with the same pay does not seem like a good idea. I suggest you take up the job, and prepare well for the GATE 2015 much harder, and get into IISC or IITB. Good luck!

First of all, Congrats for your score!! I too am a CS Graduate and studying at NITIE in PGDIE. NITIE is a place of lot of fabulous opportunities and you can explore yourself. It's like you already have two years of work ex. so after pg course here you ll be definitely be placed in a higher role of consultant( if you choose IT Stream) and the annual package also are at its best. I would suggest you to opt for NITIE - if u get a GD, PI Shortlist .. then you can convert it into an admission Whereas u also have NIT's and low rated IIT's.. Make a wise decision!! All the Best

Hi, i had the same doubt of losings more than gaining when I got the rank off 905 in gate and a GATE score of 617. Joining NIT or most of the IIT's for MTECH, would be a Loss as far as I think, because most of the good Mtech courses are mostly filled through direct admission which you wont get at this score. Better options are IISC and IIT Mumbai , Delhi, Chennai offer some good courses and there is a minimum cut off for taking tests for these entrance in these courses in IIISc and IIT's. Another option is NITIE, If at this score u can get a chance to appear for GD PI, then please do take a shot as , NITIE will definitely not  be a loss in terms of ROI and what you get two years later. Hope whatever you choose turns out best for you. Because its all about choices :)
