How can I adjust my screen's color temperature?

What is the color temperature of a computer screen?

• I recently started to use a software called f.lux that can adjust my screen's color temperature. Out of curiosity, is there a mapping between color temperature and RGB settings? Is color temperature also related to brightness and contrast?

  Color temperature is the physical variation of proportions of RGB levels in the screen's white point (255, 255, 255). This is used to simulate standard light settings such as D5000 for daylight, which is a slightly yellowish white; while D6500 is a slightly bluish tone. Color temperature is also termed cool(er) and warm(er) given the tonal variations of white. However, it is interesting to note that the warmer color temperature is 5000K, while the cooler one is 6500K. Lastly, brightness and contrast are independent to color temperature. Although, we may perceive darkness in cooler color temperatures, as the white will get increasingly bluish.
