Why was Indian National Army formed?

Why is it that not even one book is written on the families of officers and jawans employed by the Indian Army/Navy/Airforce?

  • It's been a while that I have been reading fiction/non fiction books and till date I haven't quite seen a book that talks about the families of Indian Army/Navy/Airforce Soldiers. I mean it's a huge sacrifice protecting the country and living away from your country for like ages. I can totally see that as I was brought up in a part army part civilian background with mom and dad working for Indian Army but I am surprised no one even took a second to think that a book with countless stories could be written about the families.I know there are books written by some ex army Chiefs on their experiences or tactical strategies but the section of the Army that does not even get 5 percent limelight is their families.I am surprised in the past decade or so countless fictional books and characters have come up from authors like Chetan Bhagat, Ravi Subramanian, Durjoy Dutta, KP Singh,Anuja Chauhan, etc about people working for the corporate but not even one character works for the Indian national army or a book that shows the everyday pain and trouble the families face in the midst of trouble. My relatives worked with the pension department for like a decade and I have heard so many gory stories about the wives and families of the Indian soldiers who were prisoners of wars neither getting salaries or pensions and were subjected to shame across the country where people would tag their husbands as traitors which is far from being relevant. We must not forget these people are the people we should be really grateful to not the artificial celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar or MSD or Yuvi or SRK or whoever the fuck there is around but sadly that is not the case.Guys I think it's time to change the status quo. I have an idea and I am working on it and I also wish the established brigade of authors do something significant to show people the lives of this particular section of the society that has sacrificed a lot for this country.

  • Answer:

Is there no book on this at all? I am truly surprised. I mean true sacrifice meats no response at least in terms of having a book or two capturing the essence of the stuff that jawans do for the country. I am not from army background so can't relate to the details you mentioned. But being an entrepreneur know one thing. A pain point is a good thing - so if you feel something should come to the world and the people who should get it out are not bothered (believe you me that happens often); then you gotta startup doing it. You know the pain point, you personally relate to it & you know broad directions than just do it. May be people will drop by on quora or kickstarter to help you do this.

I guess the reason to this could be the money mindedness of the publishing houses. Most of the novels (fiction) become bestsellers in this country for two major reasons , ì.e. the simplicity of the language, and the capability of the masses to connect with the characters. And both of these things will most evidently be missing if you write about the life of armed forces personnel and their families ,because as I am told, that you actually have live through this to understand it as some experiences are unfathomable, and also it will take a herculean effort by the writer to simplify the military jargons and phrases for better understanding of his non military readers.

If you're looking for a book about the experiences and lives of Indian Armed forces families, I suggest you read "Chicken soup for the Indian Armed Forces soul". There aren't many books on the families, but you can now find a lot of us writing about the experiences on facebook pages and blogs. If you're interested, there's one called 'Fauji wife's diary'.
