What is the career growth in SEO in India?

I am in Infosys as of now, Soon I will be asked about my preference for posting location in India. My hometown is Jaipur. Will choosing Jaipur affect my career growth in IT? Should I be choosing any other city like Pune, Banglore or Hyderabad? Does job location affects career growth in IT industry?

  • Answer:

Yes, it will affect your career growth; but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Living in a place like Pune, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad or Chennai will give you better opportunities, more interesting companies, better seniors to learn from, more events and other activity happening. There is no question that your career will be better. Your choice of location is a balance between your potential career growth and your family/community/comfort zone. It is quite acceptable to choose lower career growth if you feel that you will be happier in Jaipur in the long term (for non-career reasons). I spent 8 years in the US. If I was purely focused on my career, I would have continued living in the US. In fact, lots of my friends and relatives tried to convince me to stay on. However, I chose to move to India (Pune). I came, with the full belief that my job satisfaction in Pune would be lower, but the non-career aspects would compensate for it. (This is not a general statement applicable to everybody; this is specific to me, and what I want from life.) I've been in Pune for 13 years, and I'm sure that in the US I could have been doing more interesting things (career-wise) and could have been earning more money, but I have never regretted my decision. You need to choose based on what you want. There is no "right" answer.

Thanks for A2A So you'r from Jaipur awesome place to live was there for a couple of years,GT mall and Saras parlor and not forget the mountain views. Any way coming to the point  To be frank I've never seen an IT hub located anywhere in Jaipur. Personally I think its more of a tourist place rather than a place to settle down,When you compare Jaipur to either Bangalore or Hyderabad the difference is significant, both of them are well developed culturally enhanced and the best part a better place to learn and grow. Choosing job location won't effect your career growth  but will stop the growth of yourself and your opportunities. If you'r age is less than 35 then don't even think again locate see explore you will learn new things not just professionally even culturally. You will meet new people new ideas,a fresh infusion on the  perspective of life will be experienced by you

Well, I'd like to answer this question from a different perspective. The Boss View ;) As it says, lifestyle attracts youth. Bangalore/Pune has it. For the IT lovers. Numerous IT firms with the happening society all around, better aspects of getting abroad and an access to early-adopting of unseens products. What more a youth need? I have started small software startup here in Surat, Gujarat. And Here, getting employees are as hard as choosing the right vegetables for your "sub". Those who get a degree that is associated to "IT" have always been attracted to Pune and Bangalore and why won't they be? All the MNCs have set their feets there. Leaping from one firm to another for better pay helps Jack earn lot of cash. But this widely affects Tier-II cities. Many entrepreneurs want to nurture talent in their own cities but lack of trust from employees' perspective / lack of self-confidence makes it unattained task. If you are all fresher, I would say, you should definitely get employed in one of those hubs and learn how those orgainzations work and come back to Jaipur after few years so that you can get employed/startup. You can implement the ideologies learnt in your past to your own city, so part of aspiring IT guys will choose to work where you work and who knows, some day your own city will be generating IT employment. Some one has to start, ain't it? Because At The End Of The Day, family matters. For the majority of society. You will definitely have better future growth if you are at an IT hub, there's no doubt about it. At the end, it is your personal endeavor whether you want to be a career oriented guy or a guy with balance in life as put by .

It won't affect your growth per se but I would suggest getting a little background on the kind of projects that are done in Jaipur before opting for it. You would not want to land up in a city where your scope for learning is limited because of the kind of projects there. If the technology being worked on there is good and they have good projects, by all means go to Jaipur.

There will be an impact but the depth of an impact depends on the stage of your career and the organization you join. Bangalore and Hyderabad are the biggest hubs for IT in India. Hence, the best of opportunities to grow are there. Other cities generally, do not have best of resources so they tend to get low end projects. However, its a very general statement - early in the career you may get a great learning opportunity and freedom in a smaller place.
