How to change privacy settings for photos posted on Facebook via graph API?

In Facebook's recent change to the privacy settings, why did it make your photos public by default, even when you had chosen all your other information to be private?

  • If I recall correctly, in the overlay screen where they asked you to update your privacy settings, you could click the private option for all the available categories, and still find later on that your photos were public. I recall having to go to a separate interface to make photos private.

Are you talking about your Photo Albums?  See, Photo Albums always had indivdual privacy settings, and the default option was "Public".  However, there was this weird nested privacy where non-friends couldn't access your profile, and thus couldn't directly reach the photos.  However, if a friend liked or commented a photo from a Public album, it may show up in your News Feed. With the privacy settings redesign, there is no "separate profile privacy", which is less confusing, and exposes Public photo albums (and Notes, Events, etc.) on your profile.

I remember when the privacy changes happened a few months ago, there was a screen that displayed the option to retain your existing settings for privacy for you wall, profile etc. I'm not sure that included photo albums but what I do know for sure is if your albums had the privacy set to only visible by friends, it made the album visible to everyone by default.
