Why do you need to opt maths at 10+2 level beside physics and chemistry to be eligible for Computer Science course, for both BTECH and BSc? Is math, physics or chemistry of 10+2 level really required to understand computers or is our education system designed in such a way?

From my childhood the power of computers amazed me. I started experimenting with my own computer learning new and different things. I am now in love with computers. I always dreamed to take Computer Science as my career path but now I find my dream shattered. Due to some reason I opted Biology instead of Maths in science stream and now I can not persue my dream. I feel sad, want to curse myself as well as the system. I have been playing with computers for such a long time but I don't understand why one need to know 10+2 level Maths or Physics or even Chemistry to be able to persue Computer Science course. Let me be egoistic here and tell, I feel very bad when I see people not having knowledge of computers or even background of it telling me "I will do CSE". People like them who don't even know basics of computers are ELIGIBLE for CSE course and people like me who are devoted towards computers, literally love it, are not even close to choose computers as their career field.

Answer:
Math is really, really important for CSE. And a major part of the important Math part is from 10+2 level Maths. Without the knowledge of Mathematical concepts like Matrices, Calculus, Discrete Mathematics and Probability (all of them 10+2 Maths), you cannot design optimised, well performing software which will always be based on Mathematical algorithms. And this Maths is not important for just clearing exams. Even though I study in IIIT Bangalore which has the most radical course in the country, I used feel my Maths course to be irrelevant to what I do in the other classes, however, having the Maths course is an extremely helpful tool in solving the problems in Programming courses. Even so, historically, Mathematicians and Electrical Engineers have created and dominated the Computer Industry. Mathematicians took care of the software and Electrical Engineers took care of the hardware.

Maths is important for Computer Science branch, if you want to bring in a change in the computer science world you need to have strong background in maths. Algorithms and competitive programing are all based on maths.

Maths is really important for any stream of engineering. Be it Electronics, CSE or Mechanical, it involves a lot of things having mathematical components in it. Basically, what maths does is that it makes the students think logically, and any engineering field requires you to think logically and solve problems. So Maths is an integral part of engineering. If you haven't taken up maths in your 10+2, you won't be able to understand the complex mathematics involved in your study of engineering. That is why the educational system is designed that way. Even after studying with biology, if you want to go for engineering, you can give separate exam of mathematics during the retest and join the engineering college. At least the state of Gujarat has this rule that even though you haven't taken maths, you can go into engineering by giving the exam of maths as a retest which is taken after about 3 months. So you get full 3 months to prepare for maths!! I hope this answers your question.
