How do I apply to a Starbucks inside of another store?

What is Starbucks' hourly wage for store employees? How does this compare to other quick-serve food places?

  • Do Starbucks employees make more, less, or average compared to other quick-serve food employees? Think: McDonald's, yogurt places, etc. I ask because it seems like Starbucks service is better than average, and I wonder if that reflects (in part) higher wages.

  • Answer:

As of October 2010, reported to be approximately $8.65/hour as a barista (http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Employer=Starbucks_Corporation/Hourly_Rate), which is a couple dollars higher than McDonald's. Service is better partially because of the higher pay, but more so because of the hiring mentality. Type of person that Starbucks would recruit is very different from that of McDonald's.

It depends on where you are at and the local wages.  Wages in Starbucks in Thailand might be much lower than in NYC because wages are just cheaper in Thailand.  But I would say Starbucks usually pays a bit more than McDonald's or other fast food joints.  Maybe equivalent to Costco.  Minimum wages in the US are http://www.dol.gov/whd/minwage/america.htm#.UHKUiZjCaSo
