Can I drive my car, registered in Canada, from Canada to the US to export it via a US harbor to a country in Europe? Should I expect tolls crossing the US border? Delays?

Answer:
US customs authorities should have (or pose) no problem. The US export documentation process is cumbersome and complicated and costly. Ask yourself whether you really have to ship from the US. When I last paid attention, many years ago, shipping rates from Montreal to Europe were better than between the US and Europe. The only tolls one would encounter are highway tolls charged for all vehicles that use certain toll roads, such as the New York State Thruway. I don't believe that there would be any import/export duties charged by the US, since the entry to the US is only temporary and the vehicle is entitled to leave without tax/duty. I am not a lawyer or expert in this area.
