Check out http://networkhippo.com - it's free and is a great contact manager & professional networking site that makes it easy to manage your contacts and connects to your email and social networking sites to automatically pull in new contacts. Bonus: you can set reminders to follow-up with important people so your relationships don't go stale!

If you are looking for a low-cost, self-hosted CRM system, you might want to try Zhen CRM, which can be installed for your use on any shared host or server with PHP/MySQL: http://zhen81.com/product/zhen-crm/ (Disclaimer: I work for Telerim, the company that makes the CRM software referenced here.) Zhen CRM has the following features: * Self-hosted: so you can run on your own servers * PHP/MySQL based: runs on most shared hosts or virtual servers * One-time cost, not recurring: pay one-time for the download * Easy to use UI: based on Bootstrap We are currently (as of April 2014) offering it for a really low cost of $25. You can also try out the demo from the link above. While this is not open-source, this is priced as low as possible so we can get feedback and see if the model of easy to use, self-hosted CRM software is useful.

I am not sure about free CRM software but I would like to suggest ACT CRM on cloud. ACT is one of the most popular CRM software used by SMBs. They prefer it with cloud computing services because cloud services makes it even more efficient and economic. http://www.myrealdata.com/act-hosting.html

I would recommend using SugarCRM. It offers an OpenSource (free) Community edition with unlimited users that is extremely robust and packed full of features. It is also nice that you can completely manage it yourself. I host my own with a BlueHost hosting account. It is tied in with my website and only costs me about $7 a month, including unlimited website hosting. You can also use the iOS app "iSAM Mobi" to remotely access and edit all of your information. It's pretty amazing when you consider how little it actually costs to implement.  http://www.sugarcrm.com/
