  I don't know what makes SF Thai different than other Thai to answer your question more accurately. It's good to assume that nothing SF really exists in NYC as I've found that the SF food scene is completely different (and I think better) than NYC. Especially since you're going to have more diverse Asian food in Cali simply because of location. That being said, and coming from a Chicago neighborhood that had 5 Thai restaurants, NYC is really poor when it comes to any Thai at all.
