How long will Facebook stick to its statement that Facebook Questions is not an advertising product?
-
From http://mashable.com/2010/07/28/facebook-questions/ "There was one more thing that Facebook made clear to me: Facebook Questions is not an advertising product. While brands with Facebook Pages will eventually be able to answer questions, itâs not meant to be a promotional platform; itâs meant to be a useful and insightful product for users."

Answer:
Like most user-facing features on Facebook, Questions is not an advertising product. I can't answer this question directly because it's a leading question. It implies that Facebook Questions is indeed an advertising product and that Facebook is hiding it through PR spin. I'd like to correct this misconception of Facebook's product development process, which seems to come up a lot. It pains me every time I hear that Facebook made a change to the site to make money or to "sell information to advertisers." As someone who has worked on a number of user-facing products at Facebook, I can honestly say that the word "advertiser" is never at center of the product visions for user-facing features. Facebook aims to build user-facing products that provide the most value to the world. Connecting companies to people through advertising is one way to provide value, but when defining products, Facebook's vision and goals are always, always, always on a higher level. We think about how people want to connect to each other, what tools are missing from today's technology, and how we can affect the most positive change in the long run. Making a quick buck is not interesting to us. Disclosure: I work at Facebook, but I do not work on Facebook Questions. These views are my own and may not represent those of my employeer.
