How to sell my product effectively?

How do you sell the white label of a product you develop?

  • We have developed a product based on SaaS model but now are pivoting and want to sell the white label to a startup/ company interested in marketing a ready product. The product is a k-12 analytics and report card generation software. The software is complete and implementation ready. The website for the product is http://www.gradenext.com.  Are there any agencies or websites where we can list our product for interested buyers to see?

  • Answer:

Generally it works the other way round, you develop a custom product for a few clients and then generalize it and make it SaaS to scale it. The only reason you would want to sell a SaaS as whitelable is when you want to charge higher per user. If you have SaaS built and can't sell it cheap, it is going to be tough to sell it for more.

After going through GradeNext (without knowing who your competitors is) you seem to have built depth in the product. It can find application with educational institutions and works like information decision support system. Education in India has a wide potential. And must look at marketing the services yourself. 1. Franchising:. Franchise India is a Delhi based organisation which helps you to create a distribution of your product. You could consider white labelling it or look at co-branding the product depending on the arrangement you wish to enter. Franchise India provides consultancy and support to push your product across the country. Typically the franchise model works like this - You ascertain a list price, franchise the brand to the distributor for a margin with a sales target. Its the distributor's responsibility to generate sales based on the target.Similar to how large companies like Microsoft/ IBM work with resellers. You can also collect a franchise fee from the distributor upfront when you appoint them Typically a franchise route is taken if you dont have the financial muscle to scale your distribution. 2. This is a B2B sale and you must reach out to maximum number of schools. Its appropriate to approach an institution chain who can implement the same centrally. That way you can corner some market share. 3. You can also approach medium/ large consultants (in the education space) who advise large education institutions to look at your solution favourably. They will be important influencers and can swing decisions. Lastly, once you have your product fairly penetrated, you can approach investors to support the next wave of growth. There is enough interest in the education space.

Well, sales is always a difficult part and specifically when we are dealing with SaaS. There are many brokerage firms which can help you in doing so. I will like to ask you certain questions before answering question you asked. i)  Do you have any sales team associated with your company or you guys are only developers ? ii) Had you tried selling your software by yourself approaching some of the schools in your locality? Now when you are talking about firms or agencies, there are lots of small agencies doing so, but you can never trust them, as there sole purpose will be to sell your product anyhow and you don't want to create a wrong impression in the mind of your costumers. Rather i will suggest you to do a trial with digital marketing. With this era of many Social networking website like Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ , Twitter. You must find School groups in all of these networking websites and put your offering of software in those groups like STEM education groups in facebook or linkedIn. Through them , you can let school know about your product. I know a company which focus on STEM education , based in Noida. You can talk to them. http://www.thinnkware.com/. Well i might be guiding you to opt a different solution rather then answering you question . So here are the list of some agencies who do brokerage i) http://www.synergy-mg.com/industries/technology-software-marketing-pr-firms-agencies ii) Just dial is one of the place which you must be looking for. http://www.justdial.com/Mohali/School-Management-Computer-Software-Dealers/ct-576053 there are many other firms and call centers who can do pre-sales for you taking a specific amount. Try gust. A lot of VC's and angel guys access it. Also you can try http://cofounder.in. List yourself as the founder and pitch. Else, try facebook groups such as Banglore Startups, Delhi startups, Mumbai Startups, several people hawk such opportunities. If nothing else try local startup meetups in your city.
