Is it possible for someone with a BE degree in mechanical engineering to pursue a career in database administration?

  A2A Yes it is possible. You don't even have to get a Master's degree in CS or IT in order to work in technology. My uncle has a BE in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Industrial Engineering and he works as an SAP Functional Consultant. It doesn't really matter what you study in school when you decide to work in technology. What I recommend doing is learning all the skills required to become a DBA (Database Administrator), get certified, and start looking for consulting opportunities to start with so that you can see if you actually like doing that kind of work. If you do, start looking for something more permanent. There aren't that many challenges when changing into an IT career like this, very few companies actually care about what kind of degree you have as long as it is slightly related.
