What to do about health insurance while changing jobs?

What are some easy or part time jobs with good health insurance?

  • Consider the case of a reasonably wealthy/frugal young individual living in the United States with a chronic health condition like diabetes. This individual could be financially independent/retired except for the cost of acquiring individual health insurance. What jobs (or perhaps there are other options) offer great health insurance with low commitment? In this context, Salary or wage is relatively unimportant.

  • Answer:

Any job in Hawaii over 20 hours per week. The prepaid healthcare act requires employers to provide coverage for all employees that work at least 20 hours.

Laws will vary by state but in this specific scenario I would recommend your state program for the uninsured with pre-existing conditions.  If you qualify, you can pay for that coverage instead of working for coverage.  In 2014 no one can be denied for health insurance, so you will have more options. If working is a must, Starbucks is a name I hear thrown around a lot.  I believe they offer health insurance to all of their employees.
